I forgot the camera at school, so I'm not able to post the pictures we took with the camera. However, I am able to share the 100 year old photos with you. :) The kids loved seeing themselves age and were super excited to watch the video and see their friends. We are continuing Opinion Writing. The students are doing great giving their opinion for what they like. We are working on supporting their reasons... ex. I like because they are super soft. ex. Dogs are better because they like to play with you. And continuing to stretch unknown words. On Friday, we will read Eating the Alphabet: Fruits and Vegetables. Then we will discuss making the words plural with -s or -es. **This information is just to inform the students, we do not expect them to follow this rule in Kindergarten.
Parents: please make sure your child is completing their writing homework and you are not spelling the words for them. We are teaching confidence in writing and getting them to use their sounds. :)

Handwriting/Writing
We are beginning Opinion Writing. We will be reading two books this week: Pinkalicious and The Recess Queen. We will focus on writing a reason to support our opinion... "I like it." will not be an acceptable response. :) We want MORE! For example: I like the color blue because it is the color of the sky. :) or another response would be, I liked the part when the girls became friends. **Please note the students are still stretching unknown words and only writing the sounds they hear. However Sight Words are expected to be spelled correctly if we have taught them in class.) Friday our Grammar lesson will be reviewing Nouns. We will be circling the nouns in sentences. Here is the Youtube video for The Recess Queen. Watch it with your child and discuss your opinion of either the book or one of the characters.
Math
The 3rd Quarter is here are we are diving into addition and subtraction. As work comes home and home learning sheets arrive you will see something you may be unfamiliar with called number bonds. Number bonds are a set of circles that help children see the relationship between the whole number and its parts. For instance, the number 5 can be broken into different parts like 1 and 4 or 2 and 3. Here is a number bond.
Hopefully by the time you see this in home learning your student will have the beginning understanding of number bonds so they can explain it to you!!
Science
Gravity is a fun law of motion to explore with Kindergarteners. For some reason dropping and throwing objects appeals to them!! :) Here is a short video we will watch that is a great, simple explanation of gravity!
