Week of August 31

 sports clip art
Our Resources for the week are: Tuesday=MUSIC, Thursday=1-18 has P.E.,19-37 has MEDIA and Friday=ART.
Friday is Sports Day. :)  (Wear clothes to support your favorite team of sport!!) Sydney will be bringing in Fun Friday Snacks for the whole class. :)
Also, we do not have school on Monday, September 7.
**Any parents wanting to sign up for Fun Friday Snacks, please email us letting us know what date you would like and we will type your child's name in next to that date. We do not need to know what snack you will be providing. That can be a surprise for all of us. :) Here are some snack ideas: cookies, chips, popsicles, popcorn, apple slices. Please provide enough snack to feed 36 students.**

Handwriting/Writing:
We will continue to practice letter formations for our first and last names. Along with letters Ss, Rr and Ii. We will complete our self portraits by adding color details. Then we will discuss the difference between Kindergarten Writing and scribbling. Students will learn to take a risk and write letters/words/sentences to match their picture.
Here is one of the letter video's we will be watching this week. Remember, Story Bots has a short video for every letter of the alphabet! :)

Math:

We are working on sorting and classifying this week. The Sesame Street clip gives you an idea of what sorting is! As we get to know each other and learn the routines of the classroom this week, students will learn how to use math centers and work in their math journals. Math centers allow students to work on skills we are acquiring in class. Some centers we will explore this week are: sorting bears, playdough numbers, number writing, and computers. A goal for the end of the year is counting to 100. We are having each student count for us so we can determine what level they are on for this skill. The goal for the first nine weeks is counting to 29. Practice counting daily! If your child already counts to 100 have them count by 10's!

Science:
We will continue our discussion of germs from last week. We will also review the CHAMPS signs for tissues and bathroom emergencies while we are at the carpet in a lesson.  Then how we quickly wash our hands and return to the lesson at the carpet. :)

Reading:
Sight Words for the week are: red, green, of, a. We are still reading Nursery Rhymes and discussing rhyming words in them. :) This week our Nursery Rhymes are Hickory Dickory Dock; Diddle, Diddle, Dumpling; Baa Baa Black Sheep and Humpty Dumpty. Students will be asked to recite a Nursery Rhyme to a teacher. (We can't wait to hear which one they choose! :) They can choose any Nursery Rhyme to share with us.)  We will also read two fables and practice retelling the events in the order they happen. Our fables are The Lion and the Mouse & The Dog and His Reflection

I searched for a Youtube video to post, however the versions of the fables do not match up to ours... So click on the Fable Titles above, they are links to read the versions we are reading in class. :)

  1. Can't wait to hear what Nursery Rhyme Graham chooses to recite! I still have my childhood Mother Goose Nursey Rhyme book that we occasionally will go through and read!!
