Items for the Dog Basket need to be turned in by Friday!! Any student that sends in an item for our basket receives a special treat!

Handwriting/Writing
This week we will look through various books and see how Authors and Illustrators add details to their characters and settings. Along with the words they use to capture readers attention and make their stories come alive!
Friday we will have a grammar lesson on nouns. We will discuss how a noun is a person, place or thing; then how nouns can be singular and plural. Check back to see the chart we make together. :)

Math
Geometry continues to be our main focus this week in math. As we continue to learn about flat shapes, solid shapes are introduced. We will explore the surfaces and faces of cylinders, cubes, spheres and pyramids. Also, we will use position words such as
above, below, beside, in front of, next to, and behind.
Pete the Cat will help us learn how to use position words correctly. Here is the story to enjoy at home!

Science
As the temperatures continue to be unseasonably warm our KG scientists will use eye droppers and thermometers to investigate their world. I think we will need to use the refrigerator to record a cool temperature! We will learn about absorption and evaporation during our science times also!

Reading
Sight words for the week are: is, down, he and she. Our Word Family is the -at family. Practice having your child make words that would belong in the family~ cat, bat, mat, etc.
We are continuing our lessons on plants. We are still discussing ways to figure out the meanings of unknown words and then use them in sentences of our own. We are also finding the relationships between words and diagrams in a text. (Ex. finding the picture that shows life cycle. The picture would need to have plants at different stages in life.) We will read the story The Gigantic Turnip. (Click the title to read your child the story.)
Wednesday we will read Eric Carle's book The Tiny Seed. Here is a video of the book to enjoy at home with your child. :)
