Math
This week we begin building the foundation for subtraction. The students will learn that the opposite of joining together is taking apart or take away. The class will learn about the subtraction sign and by the end of the week apply it to take away stories.
Science
We will continue to discuss sound this week. Students will be able to explain that sound is movement or a type of energy. We will discuss loud and soft sounds and how although we can't see the
sound it makes vibrations.
Reading
Sight words for the week are: their, which, each and use. Our two Word Families are the -ogand -ockfamily. Practice having your child make words that would belong in the families~ dog, rock, shock, blog, etc. Along with the CL- blend. Practice having your childthink of words that would begin with the cl blend:class, clock, clown, etc. Here is a slideshow I made for us to use in class. The words that have cl at the the beginning receive a thumbs up and ones that do not receive a thumbs down. :)
We are continuing our Reading Module~ Seasons and Weather. We will be reading and discussing the seasons Summer and Autumn/ Fall. Then we will have an Aesop Fable about The Grasshopper and the Ants, and a lesson about what to do in Stormy weather- Safety in Storms. **Click on the titles above to reread the stories to your child. I underlined and bolded them in hopes they would stand out.**
Here is a stormy weather video we will be watching in class. It was provided by the district.

Handwriting/Writing
We are going to be listening to atrickster tale from West Africa- Zomo the Rabbit. Then we will discuss parts of the story we liked and parts we did not like. The students will decide which or both to write about. The piece will be collected for a grade. **Make sure to be assisting your child with writing by helping them listen for letter sounds, versus telling your child how to spell every word correctly.
Math
Number bonds and addition are going well. The class has grasped the concept of joining groups together using the + and = signs. Duval Math teaches the equation the traditional way, 2+3=5, along with 5=2+3. This concept is a little confusing so we will work extra hard to master both equations!
Science
We begin discussing sound energy this week. We will discuss loud and soft sounds and how although we can't see the sound it makes vibrations. Here is a short video explaining the concept of sound waves.

Today was a wonderful day!! The students LOVED passing out their Valentine Cards and Mrs. Pitts and I FELT THE LOVE in the room!!! Thank you so much for taking the time to write cards with your child and appreciate us with all the chocolates and cards. :) We enjoy having all your children in our class.
Well, we didn't take any pictures during the hour it took us to pass out the Valentine's, but we did take pictures of all the pink and red LOVE the students showed with their shirts.
Enjoy the pictures! And have a great 3 day weekend!!!
A mistake
was made when the Valentine’s list of names was printed. Six students were not
included. Here is the revised list. Sorry for the confusion and mistake!
