On Friday we will be passing out our Valentine's to our friends. Make sure your child's cards are all filled out or they will not be able to pass them out to their friends. Also, make sure to wear Red to show your LOVE for your classmates and Zavion is bringing in snacks for the class.
On Wednesday Jordon joins the six year old club!
And don't forget, there is no school on Monday, February 15. :)
Handwriting/Writing
We are going to be listening to stories and discussing a part of the story we liked and a part we did not like. We will also be bringing our Writing Checklist back out and checking our own writing. The students have been producing amazing writing!! We are aiming towards writing multiple sentences in a piece.
(Check back on the Dec. 9th post to see our Writing Checklist.)

Math
Our Kindergarten class is tackling addition and subtraction. Part of the Duval Math includes the use of number bonds to explore composing and decomposing numbers. Students discover the exciting relationships of how numbers can be joined together and broken apart.
Here is an example of a number bond.
The 5 is the whole group and the 2&3 represent parts of that number. Students will learn to apply equations such as: 5= 2+3 or 5-2=3 to represent the bond that is presented. We are excited to see how quickly the class is catching on to this "big kid" concept!
Science
Last week we saw what it looks like to be without gravity! We shared video clips from the space shuttle and space station. The class loved them! This week we will continue exploring gravity and see some more of examples of life on the space station. Here is one of our favorites!
Reading
Sight words for the week are: big, many, now and his. Our Word Family lessons will now focus on two word families at a time; they are the -ill and -ick family. Practice having your child make words that would belong in the families~ pill, sick, hill, flick, etc. We are completing our Module on Kings and Queens with a 10 question test. The test will cover Vocabulary and the stories that were typed up on the blog.
Towards the end of the week we will read The Night Before Valentine's Day.
