MATH
As we approach the end of the school year the students are challenged to write numbers through 100, which bridges Kindergarten content of writing numbers to 20 (K.CC.1.3) to Grade 1 content of writing numbers to 120. We practice this skill regularly using the hundreds chart in the classroom. Now we will take our number writing skills and see how these numbers work with tens and ones. We will be counting up and down by tens and ones as we build numbers with ten frames. We are continuing to practice our addition and subtraction fluency. If you don't have flash cards at home this would be a good time to pick up a set as the long, hot summer days are approaching!!
SCIENCE
We end the year with studying the organizational and development of living organisms. The students will be able to tell how real animals and plants are different from fictional ones. This is a fun unit of study for the class as we dispel misconceptions students have about real vs fictional living organisms.
READING
Our Sight Words for the week are much, right, any and want. Our Word Families are: -ate and -ame. Our blend is gl, here is the slideshow we will be using. (The last slide glitters! The students are going to love it.) Our Medial Vowel sound is E. We will discuss whether it's a short e or long e sound using this slideshow. Then end by writing CVC and CVCe words. The class is getting really good at remembering the vowel rules we have learned and writing these words.
We are beginning our new Module on Earth. :) Our stories are: Introducing the Earth, Garbage, Natural Resources, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Recycle, Recycle, Recycle.
